For Italy, as reported by the Republic website it was recorded about 2000 hectares of land “in areas of the Parco Nazionale d’Abruzzo (Villavallelonga-Valle Cervara, Lecce nei Marsi-Moricento, Pescasseroli-Prince Coppo and Coppo Dead, Opi Fondillo-Val); to Sasso Plover (National Park of Casentino Forests), the Forest Umbra (National Park of Gargano), Cozzo Ferriero (Pollino National Park), the Monte Cimino (Soriano nel Cimino) and Monte Raschio (Regional Natural Park of Bracciano -Martignano) ”

The second Italian site entering the UNESCO list is a transboundary extension of a previous site, the “Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and the Ancient Beech Forests of Germany,” a collection of primordial beech forests, which spread “over a short period of a few thousand years in a process that is still ongoing.
